In case you missed the news yesterday, Oscar-winning “Brave” writer and co-directer Brenda Chapman released a very strong statement against the Merida makeover this weekend. Actress and model Lily Cole, who inspired Merida’s look for the film, also tweeted her support for the campaign today, saying “I am Brave!! Tia Kratter [the Art Director] at Pixar said I inspired Princess Merida…” and “I need to personally defend Merida!”

In her statement to the Independent Journal, Chapman wrote: “There is an irresponsibility to this decision that is appalling for women and young girls. Disney marketing and the powers that be that allow them to do such things should be ashamed of themselves.”

“I think it’s atrocious what they have done to Merida. When little girls say they like it because it’s more sparkly, that’s all fine and good but, subconsciously, they are soaking in the sexy ‘come hither’ look and the skinny aspect of the new version. It’s horrible! Merida was created to break that mold — to give young girls a better, stronger role model, a more attainable role model, something of substance, not just a pretty face that waits around for romance.”

“They have been handed an opportunity on a silver platter to give their consumers something of more substance and quality — THAT WILL STILL SELL — and they have a total disregard for it in the name of their narrow minded view of what will make money. I forget that Disney’s goal is to make money without concern for integrity. Silly me.”

You know, I’ve seen a lot of Disney Mom “Happy Mother’s Day!” posts going around, but all of them I’ve seen neglected one very important Disney “mom.”

So props to Nani, who - for all her shortcomings - genuinely loved her sister and only wanted the best for her. She had to be a mom because she had no choice, and she did her best… her level best. Even if she got frustrated, even if she got scared.

And in the end? She made it work.

The reason I photographed myself, is because I was actually introduced to the comic through a friend who said that I am basically Teddy, physically and personality wise. So because of that, I decided to use outfits that I usually wear as options for Teddy to wear. :) I hope that is okay!

This makes me so happy, and yet so sad.

He was smart, he was a writer (you could tell by his phrasing) and this is something he TRULY cares about. That boy has a heart and he cares. He sees the truth for what it is and he refuses to sit idly and watch as the youth of america just stumbles by.

BUT the teacher was done. She didn’t care. She was fed up.

BUT the students were uncaring, even laughing, as this young man walked out

BUT this video was put online to be deemed as a joke and embarrass that boy.

THAT is unexceptionable

THAT is not right.

If you are this young gentleman if you are his relative, or if you have ever done something similar.

I am so proud of you

To take your opinion and share. NOT ONCE did he threaten her, NOT ONCE did he raise his voice above a proper projection so that the class could hear his words NOT ONCE did he insult her in any means past how she was behaving with her job. He didn’t undermine her. He didn’t hurt her, and yet he gave his message and left in peace.

That makes him a true, undeniable, super hero in my eyes.

i think the worst part is that the teacher won’t even talk to him?? like he wasn’t even mad at first, he was trying to appeal to her, but she just keeps saying “okay, bye” and dismissing him.

Tony has really retreated after the events of ‘The Avengers’ into his workshop, where he’s building advanced versions of his suits. He has now even has a version of the suit that can latch onto him in individual pieces … anytime, anywhere. As he starts to realize, it’s basically because he doesn’t want to be out of the suit. He’s seen a lot of things in ‘Avengers’ and has encountered a lot of powerful people, much more powerful than he is, and has made a lot of enemies.

New streetlamps could improve your view of the stars.

A new paper published in the journal Optics Express describes a system for focusing light from streetlamps directly on the area required, with almost no light leakage horizontally or vertically. Conventional street lamps scatter up to 20% of their energy away from where it is required, not only wasting power but also leading to light pollution which obscures your view of the night sky.

The proposed LED lamp uses a lens to limit where the light is projected, with a reflecting cavity to recyle light that would otherwise be wasted. The team thinks the system would use between 10 to 50% less power to illuminate a section of road than current LED streetlamps, which are already more efficient than regular lamps.

A prototype is being developed and is hoped to be completed this October.
